Area Rides

These rides are open to everyone and anyone. Some rides run year round, many are seasonal. These rides are NOT QCW Cycling Club organized or endorsed rides, the club is not responsible for the conduct or outcome of these rides, or the participants. This list provides an informational service for our members and the general public.

TUESDAY

Sprints Ride

Meets 6:45 AM at the points course for 7 laps of the 2.2 mile loop the culminates as titled in a sprint finish up to the Mount Pleasant mansion. The ride lasts about 1 hour, and while the fitness level is high to contest a sprint, this is an awesome ride to learn to hang onto a peloton and work on positioning near the end of a race. Generally runs April through August.

The Drives

Due to Closure and Construction of the MLK bridge scheduled through spring 2025, this ride is suspended.  Starts 6:30 PM on the east side of Falls Bridge for a rotating pace line effort for four laps of Kelly Drive to MLK and back. The fitness level required is fairly high, but it is a flat course and you’re encouraged to sit on the back if you don’t feel comfortable pulling through. Ride lasts about 90 minutes.

Fountain Ride

Meets at 6:00 PM at the Italian Fountain for a group ride through Chestnut Hill to Fort Washington, approximately 35-40 miles depending on sunlight. While not a blazing pace the ride does not regroup.

WEDNESDAY

Dirty Thirty

This is a fast drop-ride that meets at the Trellis (aka Paine’s Park next to West River Drive along the Trail) at 6:45 AM. The ride is about 25 miles of hills and often stops for coffee at Volo in Manayunk at the end.

THURSDAY

Fountain Ride

Meets at 6:00 PM at the Italian Fountain for a group ride through Lower Merion, approximately 35-40 miles depending on sunlight. While this is not a blazing pace, the ride will not regroup.

Greentree

A drop ride around a one-mile loop in Cherry Hill, NJ that starts at 6:30 PM. For more info see the Greentree Facebook page, or their Strava Page. Generally a fast and safe ride. For bonus miles, there’s a “death march” variant where you ride to/from the Ben Franklin bridge.

Great Valley 30

Another fast, flat, circuit that starts at 6 PM on Thursdays around Great Valley Corporate Park. Possible to ride to/from Philly, but that makes for a long day. Very analogous to Greentree.

MTB Fight Club

Starts 6:30 PM at Belmont Plateau across from the car barn.

SATURDAY

Vino Velo

Leaves at 9:00 AM from Lloyd Hall for a fast-paced group ride through to Ambler, approximately 35-40 miles depending on sunlight. This is a long-standing, fast training ride. They will not wait. Often a more casual group rolls out just behind the “A” group, and will gladly sweep you into the mix should you get dropped.

SUNDAY

Base Ride

Leaves at 8:45 AM from the DAWG (25th and Pennsylvania Ave, aka Reliance Triangle). Routes are typically between 45-60 miles and intended to be a team-building ride, with a steady conversational pace. No-drop.
